Help other CONSUMERS to be better informed. ----------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------ Bus Commuters Rights Awareness Fortnight by GOACAN ------------------------------------------------------------------------ GOACAN will observe a Bus Commuters Rights Awareness Fortnight from 23rd August to create awareness among the commuters on their Right to Safety, Right to Complain and Right to Grievance Redressal. The awareness fortnight will also highlight various consumer issues related to the public transport system in Goa.
During the fortnight Consumer Forum volunteers will focus on a special campaign on notifying Bus Stops, issue of Bus Tickets, display of Fare Tables in all buses, action on bus conductors & drivers for misbehaviour and driving in a rash & negligent manner. During the fortnight Consumer Forum volunteers will reach out to various Village Panchayats & Municipal Councils to seek their participation in making the public transport system in Goa comfortable, affordable and safe and promoting the benefits of notified bus stops, bus bays and proper signages. GOACAN will also take the campaign for a comfortable, affordable and safe public transport system to Educational Institutions, Mahila Mandals, Self Helps Groups and NGO's working with the disabled. GOACAN will promote the use of the Complaint Boxes at KTC Bus Stands and Complaint Boxes of Consumer Welfare Clubs (CWC) for student commuters in High Schools, HSS and Colleges to report unsafe driving practices, misbehaviour & harassment due to 50% concession on the bus fares. During the fortnight GOACAN will submit representations and interact with various authorities like the Director of Transport, Superintendent of Police, Director of Education, Director of Social Welfare, District Collectors, Chairpersons of Regional Transport Authority (RTA), Taluka Mamlatdars, Chairman & Managing Director Kadamba Transport Corporation, the Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights. (GSCPCR) and the Goa State Women's Commission (GSWC). GOACAN will also follow up with the All Goa Private Bus Owners Association (AGPBOA) various proposals put at the public meeting organised by them in June this year.
