The velocity with which the CBI moved to get former Gujarat Home Minister Amit Shah’s bail cancelled raises many eyebrows. As never before, within hours of the Gujarat High Court order, the CBI burnt midnight oil to knock on the doors of the Supreme Court. The CBI has, however, a lot to explain as to why it is dragging its feet in many other cases. The 2G Spectrum scam involving Telecom Minister A. Raja is a case in point. However politically sensitive the case may be, the CBI has to prove its independence and credibility. It should not allow itself to be reduced to merely being the Congress Bureau of Investigation. That is, if it isn’t already one.
