Hello Agnelo,

Your opinion, I do not contradict. But believe me, there is something happening in Goa and to Goa. Goa will servive not only for 45100 years but beyond that, but NOT the Goa which was Goa once upon a time. Look at the present Goa, there is no Goan flavour left at all. Goan pork vindalo atam zala Indian pork shakuti. Check with Joegoauk, he knows exactly what is happening in Goa as he keeps watch 24 x 365 days.

Buzz, drum and action is the need of the hour for Goa to retain its originality.

These days Goan media is buzzing with Save Goa - Save Konkani buzz words. It seems to me as if Goa and Konkani is on the verge of extinction. Did Goa and Konkani survived 451 years of colonial rule much longer then other states of Indian Union? Why is this sudden onslaught by politicians, Civil Society, Artists, NGO's and you name it?

I think it is because Goa and Konkani has become hot commodity.

Tiatr or khel tiatr was one of the best form of edu-entertainment in Goan back then. The tiatrist of yesteryears (some are alive struggling to make ends meet) used to put they heart and soul to bring best out of their talent.

Is it now? I know many tiatrist has made it their business rather than a platform to show their talent. There are tiatrist known to have taken or taking money from the politicians to sing praises.

The Buliders & real-estate developers are selling every inch or land in the name of GOA - land of beaches and bitches (women). They not only cater to rich and powerful but also to poor by bringing cheap unskilled labour to complete their housing projects and then let them feed on their own in Amche Bangarache Goem. So we have artificial shanties.

There comes social service NGO's who try to teach Konkani to the migrate workers as it is important tool of survival. Some even teach them to sing Mando and then with the help of migrates 'Konkani Rocks'. There are political NGO's who are busy telling Goans how vicious the government polices are but at the sunset they 'wine and dine' with the same government officials/politicians.

Then the Goans who are in great hurry to get rich, and get rich now by hook or crook. They collude with the tourist and provide all assistance to source and finalize property deal. They will even go out of the way to steal document and land records for few rupees unmindful of the damage they are doing to the motherland Goa.

We have So-called Global Goans trying to keep Konkani and traditions of Goa alive. How? Not by speaking Konkani at home but by singing and dancing few broken Konkani songs. Tapping feet and celebrating Village Feast these Goans call themselves 'FLAG BREARERS' of Konkani and Goan tradition world wide.

And now the Flip-Side, since Goa is become hot commodity we have many Goans running back to Goa from all over the world. Many of these who have migrated to big cites and towns in India and over the world used to ridicule native Goan as 'village folks'. I know many here in Dubai (some years ago) who despised Goa and Goans. If you had to ask, 'Tum Goemcho?' The catch phrase reply ' I'm born and brought up in Bombay. My distant uncle/aunty leaves in Goa.' The same folks now running to Goa every six month to get the share of property which they never cared while they lived in 10X12" dinky rooms in Bombay.

Now the question, do we really love Goa and Konkani from deep within or we love because it rakes money. Goa has survived 451 foreign rule and will survive next 45100 years!

Viva Goa
