Present day Goans seem to be dressing like Potekars. I remember when services, especially at Margao Churches, and specially on feast days used to be a sight to behold. The men were in regulation suits and the ladies wore magnificent dresses and other accessories. Hats, gloves and stockings were not uncommon. They did it out of respect for the Big Guy, but that didn't stop me from admiring them. We are after all talking about Margao, once upon a time the jewel in the Salcete Crown. Not only the aristocratic Modgonvcars and Karns came bedecked, but also the prominent families from surrounding villages, irrespective of caste. I know times have changed, but it is ridiculous to see only the feast band dressed formally and in style. And this is December, to boot. It can't be that hot to be carelessly casual on a major feast day I think. And that coming from a Bardezcar who is the epitome of informality - usually.
