As the Year 2010 draws to a close, it is a moment to do some stock taking on where goans stand after all the noises, voices and protests since 2006. Whether any of the much publicised issues have been mitigated or whether they have only been compounded.

1. The monstrous Regional Plan continues to haunt goans much to the cheer of real estate and politicians.

2. Mining continues to devastate the Western Ghats despite all claims of the Environment Ministry's crack-down.

3. Goa's Food security is dropping to zero.

4. Goa's Water security is halved.

5. Goans physical security has dropped to 60 percent.

6. Vices and intoxication are legal fund raisers for government.

7. Garbage piles up at every street corner.

8. Slums and stinking drains are the greatest acheivement of liberation.

9. Goan markets colonised by migrants and its opinion remains enslaved to the chambers of industry.

10. A significant number of Goa's thinkers, artistes and writers are domesticated by politicians and corporates.

11. Social work is fast deteriorating into an industry. Lacks accountability and ethics.

12. Corruption rules at all levels.

13. 'Liberation and Power to the Goan People' remains a distant dream.

BEST WISHES FOR THE NEW YEAR 2011
