‘Zatrotsav’ commences with pomp at Mapusa

The 76th ‘Zatrotsav’ of the famous Bodgeshwar Temple in Mapusa commenced on Tuesday with traditional pomp and religious fervour amid police security.

The purohit performed the pooja at noon, as people from all walks of life thronged to the temple to offer their prayers to the deity. Among the dignitaries those visited the temple are Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, Mapusa MLA Francis D’Souza, Mapusa Municipal Council Chairperson Sudhir Kandolker and DySP Sammy Tavares.

The Zatrosav will culminate on Wednesday at 11 pm after ‘Aarti’ and ‘Prarthana’.

Surrounded by greenery, it is a small shrine dedicated to Kanakeshwar Baba or Bodgeshwar, locally known as Bongini.

Thousands of devotees flock to the temple. The God is regarded as Angavani, to whom vows are made and who fulfills desires of the devotees. On fulfillment of desires, people offer presents (flowers, bananas, etc) to the God as promised by them earlier.

Mapusa Police station posted several police personnel at the temple to maintain law and order.

DySP Sammy Tavares visited the site of Bodgeshwar Temple on Tuesday morning and had a look at the security arrangement.

Giant wheel and stalls of sweets, fruits, flowers, toys, utensils, tea, snacks, cold drink, etc, have been set up opposite the Bodgeshwar Temple.
