My claim is that the following statement has reasonably good evidence to back it up: "A change of 1 unit in the ratio of total cholesterol to high density lipoprotein-bound cholesterol, is associated with a 53% change in the risk of myocardial infarction" ...paraphrased from Mensink et al., 2003 The evidence to back this claim up is published in this peer-reviewed paper: Stampfer MJ, Sacks FM, Salvini S, Willett WC, Hennekens CH. (1991) A prospective study of cholesterol, apolipoproteins, and the risk of myocardial infarction, N Engl J Med., 325(6):373-81. Cheers, Santosh
