Hi Mr. Lopes,The article on 'Konkani is the vernacular language' is truly interesting and expect to read more from you in future. Many thanks.Joao. 11. Konkani is the vernacular language (Nelson Lopes)
Hypocritical concern for vernacular languages Indian states are formed on language basis. Goa too is formed so. Though Konkani is the language of Goans, Marathi has been ?brought in through back door to divide the people ?At that relevant time Dr.dsouza, Adv Uday, Alemao did not use their position in power to write scathingly, or speak forcefully and convincingly about the consequences ?MGP party was hell bent on merging Goa with Maharashtra and tried to force it on unwilling Goans. These very leaders, who tried to ? destroy the very identity of Goa have been ?discarded in the dust bin of history. The devanagri script has wrecked havoc and created antagonism and aversion towards Konkani. None of the so called protagonist of vernacular languages openly admit that the vernacular language is konkani, but they are advocating cunningly the cause of Marathi. Goa does not have to encourage vernacular languages like Urdu., Kanada Gujarati ?to display their National credentials and it is only a camouflage of sinister intentions to mean and include Marathi The state of Maharashtra does not need the favour of Goans to promote or protect it and which is well developed. The Marathi as medium is indirect measure to suppress the poor from vertical advancement in life and that is the dream of every poor parent. The lovers of Marathi have done nothing to preserve Konkani. Most of the minority schools also offer French. Portuguese and Marathi as the third language and which choice now will be difficult.. Do the majority community schools give preference to konkani ?even as the subject? The new dispensation will force every one to offer compulsorily Konkani in Marathi schools and that will be good sign .Konkani as the compulsory subject will serve the purpose ?without not alienating the Goans and will not cut out culturally. All the Goans who never studied formally the language are still promoting it through drama .songs, speaking it , that has kept it alive for 450 years of Portuguese oppression It is the love of Goans that has led to the survival of the language in various popular ?art forms. It is a fallacy that 50 years of liberation has promoted the language, When primary education was in English, nobody related it to degeneration of culture and 20 years of primary education in Konkani has not led to staunch cultural Goan Nationalist. Hence be bold, honest and straight forward that vernacular language for Goans is Konkani The lack of High schools in Goa in Marathi is ominous sign of its importance. Marathi medium schools were on the verge of closure due to strength and it is the Govt. grants that have revived them. The fear of ?dwindling ?of Marathi medium schools is real due to shift in Medium of choice. Do we encourage love of the language only by compulsory subject? Is it precondition for employment? Are konakni news papers supported by the Govt by favouring ?advertisements There is just one konkani daily in Devanagri script. Look at the private initiative of Konkani Channels and time allotted by the Govt for Konkani broadcasts. Govt is more inclined towards promoting Marathi films and their cultural organisations Konkani books in devanagri are supplied to Libraries , where there are no readers. What happens to all the children , who excelled with Konkani after their school or college careers? In what way do use it specifically to be culturally potent? Politicians must be more rational and pragmatic rather than raise passions to gain political mileage English is a subject in Govt p[rimary school also in Std III, IV My experience as ?an In charge of complex, forced me to conduct workshops in reading, pronunciation, teaching of the text of both the classes It is a sorry state of affairs that needs attention Nelson Lopes chinchinim 9850926276 End of Goanet Digest, Vol 6, Issue 521 **************************************
