To my understanding, *apolitical* would mean the group itself doesn't take political sides. Not that its individual members don't have political views.
If you extend the argument below to its logical extreme, members too should not have their own political views. The credibility of an NGO would depend on its work and its record, not the overt or covert links of individuals who happen to be part of it, I would think.
