Some refreshing news about the off season entertainment scene in Goa. Hotelier Deepak Luthria's Sun City Resort, a four star property built into a beautiful scenic location in Baga, has launched 'Sunday night live' featuring Goa's premier jazz band 'Jazz Junction'. The weekly event took off on the 19th of June with a full house that included several accomplished jazz artistes that included pianist Ronnie Monsorate and singers Nelly Pereira, Effy Monsorate and Mac Dourado. Jazz Junction put together by bassplayer Colin D'Cruz features some of India's most accomplished jazz artistes that includes singer Yvonne Gonsalves, pianist Xavier Peres and drummer Lester Godinho. Sunday night live's opening set drew tremendous applause and the musicians in the audience were encouraged to take to the stage with the band. Ronnie Monsorate and Mac Dourado slipped into the band as though they had been performing togehter all their lives. Nelly Pereira a veteran on the local scene then joined the band with a couple of popular jazz statndards that prompted Ronnie's wife Effy, a retired jazz vocalist, to return to the stage after around twenty five years to join her husband and Jazz Junction in an impromptu yet brilliant rendition of 'Fly me to the moon'. Hotelier Carlos Tavora and UK Goa lover Anu were among some of the enthusiastic audience at the launch of Sunday night live. Future Sundays will feature some accomplished visiting jazz artisttes like saxophonist Mtafiti Imara from the United states, trumpet player Bob Tinker from france and singer Derek Rogers from England.
