George, I won't be as pessimistic as you. Over my years of interaction, I've come to believe that there are an amazing number of people doing fascinating work across the Goa/Goan world -- in Goa, in the diaspora.
But you need to search hard to find these gems. Often they get underrecognised and ignored, because our society is not used to acknowledging its own and offering praise. We do have certain problems, agreed. The main of which, I think, is that we had it too easy for too long. That has brought in affluenza and arrogance. If we had to struggle some more for what we got, then we might have been a better people. (We have also lost our ability to smile, and take ourselves far too seriously.)
