Nice to learn that Toronto-based writer Rohinton Mistry has won the 2012 Neustadt International Prize for Literature. The Bombay-born, St. Xavier's college-educated writer has some Christian characters (assuming Goans as Mistry was familiar with them) in his books. His first novel, Such A Long Journey, was made into a movie. I haven't read his latest novel, Scream. The book, Such A Long Journey, landed him in trouble with the Shiv Sena as he has a character who resembles Bal Thackeray. Indian origin writers in North America are doing very well. Some new India-based writers are making a mark on the international scene and I hope they will also win global awards, just like Arundhati Roy.
