I doubt a Lokayukta will provide relief to the people as projected by many, specially those of opposition benches and the media by and large. We have had the Consumer Courts now for years, how much benefit has it provided to consumers? Are they functioning as they should have been? Are appointments made as per guidelines? We also have the RTI to curb corruption, is it implemented as it should have been? Or is it dragged at times for years in the Courts? Can a common man who faces corrupt officials afford to spend his time and money just to force information under RTI? We have also seen a few of the RTI activists done away with by the mighty muscle and money powered! If at all India wants to curb corruption, there needs to be a detrimental consequence; only then will forced discipline come in place. We need to first cut off political interference into the police force as per Supreme Court’s guidelines. A corrupt police official needs to be dismissed and not suspended. If the guardians of the Law themselves are corrupt, nothing is going to work. It is like someone said: “Writing a good recipe, will not feed the hungry.”
