 2. Debate on English (Melvyn Fernandes)

In the United Kingdom despite free education, we live in a sea of illiteracy where it is reported that one in four children leaves primary school unable to read and write properly. Our people know everything. Even Encyclopedia Brittanica will have had a hard time selling in Goa as it would have occupied shelf space destined for cups and trophies on book cases. I was happy to read in recent postings that shelf space has been made available in a library for Goan writers. It would be interesting to know what the take up on this is or do our current people prefer to spend their time on the latest computer
gadgets on the market.
