Doha Goans have a ball.
26th April, 2012 - A scintillating evening at Ramada Plaza, Doha, Qatar
marked the culmination of months of hardwork and organization by a dedicated
committee of Doha Goans Sports Club. The jam packed banquet room and the
congenial camaraderie of 500+ Goans and a fair share of other Indians as
well as other nationalities coloured the moods to laughter and fun.
The foot tapping music by the popular band, "Blackslades", flown from India,
kept one and all on their toes and asking for more. It was nostalgia of home
away from home. Friends shared memories, new friendships and bonds were
created and the feeling of a vibrant community in a foreign land, made its
presence felt.
The highlight of the evening was the crowning of the Doha Summer Queen 2012.
The coveted title was won by Ms Emelina Soares followed by first runner up,
Ms Carol Colaco and second runner up, Ms Swizel Pereira
Various group performances gave a break to the non-stop dancing couples. A
Jordanian Salsa couple caused many a heart to skip a beat while another
performance of Remo's "Maria Pitacha" by a group of young girls won many
hearts and applause.
Among many sponsors like Jet Airways, Air India, Trans Orient, Ramada Plaza
Doha, Gulf Lights, Mercure, Lulu, EZY Travels, Marhaba Jewellery was also
Royal Goan Beach Club, represented by its Marketing Director, Leo D'Mello
who offered a Free Holiday to the Summer Queen and to a lucky couple of the
evening.
A Souvenir was released to mark the event and the President of Doha Goans
Sports Club, Mr Ambrosio Dias, while thanking the hard working committee
members promised to take the Club and its reach higher with richer cultural
and communal export. He said he had the vision to make the community more
vibrant by galvanizing the wide array of talents and goodwill available with
the Doha Goans.
A good time was had by all and everyone is looking forward to more varied
programs and events to seal unity and goodwill among the expat community in
Doha.
