The SC decision on phasing out Government sponsor for Haj pilgrimages within 10
years has a point. "India provides subsidy to over a lakh pilgrims who go to
Makkah and Madina annually and spends over Rs.600 crore ($120 million) every
year on the pilgrimage"-ToI..
So this comes to the provisions in Goa's budget of sponsor upto 80% for
pilgrimages to Shirdi, Vailankani,........ Is this good governance?
Money could have been spent on education and health instead of sponsoring
personal religious expeditions at public cost.
