Marshall,
I agree with you, ignorance does father confidence.

As a teenager, growing up in socialist Tanzania, there were many a time when I
went to church only to be told by the priests that they had orders from the
Govt that there was to be no kissing of the cross, etc. These
orders, funnily enough, usually came during or close to Holy Week.

Tanzania had outbreaks of cholera every few years. The govt wanted to control
the spread of the disease and thus issued those orders whenever there was an
outbreak.  I remember thinking at the time, "What a bunch of govt idiots. Don't
they know that God will never spread a disease from the kissing of the feet of
Christ on the cross?"

Bottom line is that God does not spread disease.
Humans do.
One of the quickest ways to catch a disease is by getting in contact with the
body fluids of an infected person.

I think you will agree with me that the Govt of Tanzania was correct. To stop
the spread of an infectious disease, they had to stop the strange habits of the
religious. 'Belief' had to be superseded by the knowledge of those
who specialize in containing the spread of infectious diseases.

Quite frankly, Sanal Edumaraku has done the residents of Mumbai a favour. He
showed exactly what was dripping from the cross. If anything, you should be
saluting him for sharing his knowledge.
