During the election campaign Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar had promised that government corporations would be headed by professionals. Backtracking on several other promises he has also, like the previous government, loaded these corporations with political appointees.
Some of these Corporations should have been wound up to curb unnecessary and wasteful expenditure. Only those Corporations which serve a realistic purpose, headed by technocrats with expertise in the area and mandate of that Corporation ought to have been retained. The Chief Minister may be saving the exchequer some money by not using his police security. But how does he justify the gross wastage of lakhs of rupees on account of the cabinet status he has given to the Chairman of the Law Commission, NRI Commissioner and Vice Chairman of the Planning Board. We should not be surprised if we land up with a saffron Lokayukta too. Then the BJP will have established its complete autocracy and the secular landscape of Goa will be progressing towards totally decay and devastation.
