Mining ban turns into mining sham

MARGAO: The collector of South Goa, N D Agarwal, has come under fire from 
activists in the mining sphere for relaxing the ban on mining transportation 
during the monsoons without citing any convincing reasons for its modification.

Agarwal had, earlier this month, issued an order banning the movement of trucks 
in Quepem, Sanguem and Dharbondara talukas until September 12, in view of the 
threat mining trucks pose to the lives of the public, on pathetic roads during 
the monsoon.

The order, however, was met with opposition from the mining companies and the 
truck owners ...........
