Dear Daryl :
Interesting piece. However, to set the record straight, I hasten to point out
that it was the Entebbe Goan Institute that was the one established on April
24, 1905, by 30 Goans who paid one half of their monthly incomes as an Entrance
Fee, and certainly not the Kampala Goan Institute which was only founded on
June 26,1910, by 17 Goans. Your source got his facts mixed up.

Dear Armand,

A few comments wrt the topic at hand:

a: I enjoyed reading the Daryl Martyris (DM) post, as I did your intervention.
b: It is good to read about the experiences of Goans in different parts of the
world.
c: Not very sure if the DM article was re-edited for GN or not, but the history
posted on the EGI website gave me a clue (correct me if I am wrong) that a
number of Goans originally traveled to Uganda as Portuguese citizens.
d: I am sure that DM (if he reads his article again) will wish to rewrite parts
of it. Is he entirely quoting others or are some of words his own thoughts? For
instance: Was it 'galling' to him or to the indigenous population that wealthy
Ugandan Asians were given back their properties? Furthermore, IF the Goans were
essentially in the professions, how were they "run out" by the 'Patels' ?

e: Your intervention should remind us that it is prudent to seek more info from
'as many' before scripting a post about others. He would have benefited much by
seeking info even by way of GN.

good wishes

jc
Disclosure: Daryl's family on both his grandmaternal and grandpaternal sides
were close to our parentals in Poona and Nachinola respectively. He is, from
what I gather, a very smart young man. I am sure he will learn from your post
and be grateful to you for that.
