In a case unprecedented not only in Canada but probably also in North America and Europe, a Toronto anesthesiologist was convicted of 21 counts of sexual assault on women aged 25 to 75 while on the operating table of a large mid Toronto general hospital.
He was a popular medical professional with many years of practice behind him and had several of his colleagues vouch for his character. Despite engaging one of Canada's best lawyers, the evidence of 21 women was overwhelming to the judge who said that the testimony of each of the women had the "ring of truth".
