PARRIKAR DROPS RAUT, DHAVLIKAR SACKED: The BJP in Goa snapped the last
chord of its ties with the MGP with Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar,
dropping Transport Minister Pandurang Raut from his cabinet on Tuesday. He
also said that the has directed the Finance Department to reconstitute the
Economic Development Corporation Board, which will henceforth be headed by
Mr PFX D'Lima, a retired Director of Sesa Goa. Parrikar said that "since
they (the two MLAs) are now fighting the election against my own party I
have decided to drop them." (H)

GOA UNIVERSITY TO DOWN SHUTTERS? The 16-year-old Goa University is on the
brink of financial bankruptcy and may even down curtains if no remedial
action is taken immediately by the State government, disclosed acting
Vice-Chancellor of Goa University, Dr Olivinho JF Gomes yesterday. (GT)

HUNDREDS JOIN TRADE UNION STIR: Hundreds of workers participated in the
rally organised by the Central Trade Unions and Federations of financial
sector employees which culminated in a public meeting at the Customs House,
Panaji. The Unions are demanding that the government roll back the
anti-worker policies and provide more jobs as well as improve the working
and living conditions of workers in the country. (GT)

POLLS SCHEDULE LIKELY TO BE ANNOUNCED SOON: The State legislative assembly
elections schedule is likely to be announced within the next three days as
the Election Commission is understood to have plans to hold the State polls
before the onset of the monsoon. (NT)

MAPUSA RESIDENT ARRESTED: Police yesterday arrested Sadanand Talaulikar of
Gaunsavaddo of Mapusa on charges of assaulting a woman (Blossom Rodrigues).

COUNTRY'S FIRST AIRBUS ON MAPUSA-PANAJI ROUTE: Goa plans to have country's
first airbus (railroad in the sky), working on suspended cables. The State
government has the granted permission in principle and asked OCS
Inc/AEROBUS India Inc to prepare a feasibility project for installing the
airbus pilot project between Mapusa and Panaji during its first phase,
Chief Minister Mr Manohar Parrikar told reporters yesterday. (NT)

INCINERATOR FOR BURNING PLASTIC WASTE: Goa is among the three states in
India selected for a pilot project for setting up of Plasma Pyrolysis Plant
for safe incineration of plastic waste. Though burning plastic garbage is
known to produce dioxins in the atmosphere, experts say that the heat
generated by the plasma pryolysis process is so intense that everything,
even gases just disappear. (GT)

DESILTING OF RIVER SAL: The Water Works Department is bracing up to desilt
the entire Khareband-Mungul stretch of the river Sal by next month. The
department has floated a tender for the de-siltation. (H)

KONKANI MEET IN MANGALORE: The 23rd session of the All India Konkani
Parishad beginning from April 20 at Mangalore will be a crucial one in the
history of the Konkani language, as it would prepared a two-year action
plan for the development of the language on all fronts. (NT)

RS.1.5 CR WORTH OF PROMISES: Water Resources Minister Ramakant Khalap
yesterday stated that an amount of Rs.1.5 crore will be spent on irrigation
projects from Siolim-Chopdem bridge upto Morjim beach. (GT)

BROTHER DUO OF POLICE INSPECTORS: Will the Curchorem police station be
managed by a brother duo of Police Inspector Nelson Albuquerque and PSI
Nerlon Albuquerque? For the moment, it appears so. But senior police
officers say that the younger Albuquerque (Nerlon) may be shunted out from
Curchorem during the second round of police reshuffle. (H)

BORKAR TO BE FETED: Madhav Borkar, renowned poet and assistant director of
All India Radio, Panaji, will be felicitated by Konkani Lekhak Sangh for
winning the Sahitya Academy award for his poetry collection 'Yaman', at the

ABOUT ROSARIO RODRIGUES: The veteran Konkani playwright-comedian Rosario
Rodrigues, who had been hospitalized for cancer treatment, has been
discharged from the hospital since cure is not possible at this late stage.
As usual, Rosario joked about his plight saying, "Rosario somplo re atam"
(Rosario is finished) while speaking to Konkani novelist Bonaventure
D'Pietro on telephone last night. "Rosario needs our prayers and comforting
