CONG REVAMPS ELECTION PANEL: The Congress has reconstituted its Pradesh 
Election Committee in the State under the chairmanship of former Chief 
Minister Luizinho Faleiro. The party has constituted the manifesto and 
campaign committees under the chairmanship of Eduardo Faleiro and Pratapsing 
Rane respectively. (GT)

OPPOSITION MAY FIELD COMMON CANDIDATE AGAINST PARRIKAR: The opposition 
parties have agreed in principle to field a common candidate against the 
Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Parrikar, in Panaji. The Congress, the Nationalist 
Congress Party and the MGP have realized that a division of votes among 
opposition parties will help Mr Parrikar win the seat. (NT)

CONG, NCP, UGDP TALK OF PARTNERSHIP: All India Congress Committee Secretary 
and in-charge of Goa desk Ramesh Chennithala admitted that talks between 
Congress, NCP and UGDP were in progress for seat-sharing and a final decision 
would be taken before announcing the names of the candidates for election.

BJP MINORITY MORCHA GEN SECY Soter D'Souza resigned from the party post and 
the primary membership over what he termed as its careless attitude towards 
the minorities. In his resignation, D'Souza stated that vandalism at the 
place of worship at Socorro and the government's failure to apprehend the 
culprits, its disappointing role in handling Comunidade issues and the 
Gujarat genocide, had prompted him to take the decision. (GT)

'FIGHTING CORRUPTION WILL BE OUR AIM': The Goa Su-Raj party is striving hard 
to promote good persons to clean the Goan polity. Goa Su-Raj has a vision for 
good governance and also has an answer to prevent elected members from

NERI'S PICK WILL HAVE IMPACT ON CONG: In Velim constituency, all eyes are 
centred on Dramapur-Sirlim where the residence of Tourism Minister Filipe 
Neri Rodrigues is located. Any decision emerging out from his residence will 
set the agenda for all the political parties in the run-up to the May 30

NO POWER SUPPLY TO NORTH GOA: There will be no power supply to the entire 
North Goa district today from 8 am to 12.0m, as the Electricity Department 
will undertake pre-monsoon maitenance works on the 220 KVA sub-station at 
Ponda and 220 KV, 110 KV and 33 KV lines. (NT)

KTC WORKERS OPPOSE PLAN TO HIRE PVT BUSES: A huge meeting of the KTC workers 
was held at the bus stand in Panjim, where issues discussed and highlighted 
were pay increased DA as announced by the Government including arrears. The 
speakers condemned the move of the Corporation to purchase or hire private 
buses and put them under the Kadamba Transport. (GT)

NEPALI KILLED: A 60-year-old watchman, Prem Bahadur Dhame, was allegedly 
strangulated to death by three of his colleagues over a tiff that took place 
on April 24 at the Cuncolim Industrial Estate. (H)

GOAN GEOGRAPHERS' ASSOCATION: The Geographer's Association of Goa was 
inaugurated by the acting vice-chancellor of Goa University, Dr OJF Gomes, at 
the Goa University Seminar Hall on April 22. The "Goa Geographer", the first 
research periodical, was released on the occasion by Dr JS Budkule, Registrar

WOMAN ROBBED: Robbers stole a mangalsutra from a 60-year-old woman, Jayanti G 
Naik, at the Marcel market yesterday afternoon. Two persons from Belgaum have 
been arrested on suspicion. (H)

UNIDENTIFIED BODY FOUND: An unidentified male body was found floating in the 
river near the Cumbharjua ferry wharf on Wednesday. (H)

CURTORIM UNION HONOURS 12 PERSONS: The Curtorim Union honoured 12 persons for 
their contribution directly or indirectly for the development of the village 
in the fields of human resource development, agriculture, dairy, government 
service, etc. Those felicitated included. Prof Honorato Velho, Herminia 
Mascarenhas, Victoria Viegas, Celina Cota, Aida Mascarenhas, Wonodolfo da 
Costa, Gokuldas Kamat, Minguel Furtado, VJ Bhende, SB Halgekar, Leandro

FULBRIGHT FOUNDATION PAINTING WORKSHOP: The week-long Fulbright Foundation 
Workshop held in association with Art Chamber, Calangute, culminated in an 
exhibition of beautiful paintings of 12 well-known Goan painters, who had 
participated in the painting workshop. The workshop was held under the 
supervision of Prof Katherine Myers while Fulbright Fellow Hanuman Kambli was 
the co-ordinator. Present at the opening of the exhibition at the Art Chamber 
on 27 April was Mrs Rekha Kale of the US Education Foundation in India. Mrs 
Kale explained about the fellowships offered by the Fulbright Foundation. 
Rudolph Kammarmier of the Art Chamber urged Goans to avail of these 
fellowships available in various disciplines. (GoaNOW)
