KHALAP MAY BID ADIEU TO BJP: In a clear indication of his intention to quit 
the BJP, the Law Minister Rakamant Khalap on Tuesday returned his official 
car and a computer to the government. Sources disclosed that Mr Khalap may

YC SEEKS SIX TICKETS: The Goa Pradesh Youth Congress has staked its claim for 
seeking representation to six of its members for contesting on Congress Party

trace the vandalisers of Socorros Muslim prayer hall on the eve of Eid 
betrays a hands-tied attitude of the Goa Police, its investigations into an 
incident of arson, which occurred on the VHP-sponsored bandh day, is quite

THIEVES MAKE GOOD WITH LAMPS: Unknown thieves decamped with 3 sodium vapour 
lamps from the garden on the Betim side of the Mandovi bridge. The 
representative of the Souza Group of Companies, which maintain the garden on 
the road divider near the Secretariat complex, has claimed that each lamp 
costs Rs.20,000. (NT)

FIRMS LITTERING ASKED TO RESTORE SITE: Mapusa mamlatdar SP Shetye has passed 
an order restraining about eight units in the industrial estate at 
Carraswada, Mapusa, from dumping the waste materials in the open space at

YOUTH CONGR PADYATRA: Goa Pradesh Youth Congress president, Girish Chodankar, 
yesterday claimed that the 156-km Padyatra organized by the partys youth 
activists across the length and breadth of rural Goa, has galvanized support

WOMEN POLICE STATION ILL-EQUIPPED: The social action groups espousing the 
womens cause, at a workshop organized to review the functioning of women 
police station, assailed the police for running it with skeleton staff not

PETROL SOLD IN SHOPS AT CANDOLIM, BAGA: Though the sale of petrol through 
shops is prohibited under law, petrol is being illegally sold in many shops 
in Candolim and Baga at prices ranging between Rs.30 and Rs.35 per litre. (H)

SARPANCH VOTED OUT: St Andre Sarpanch Annie Fernandes was voted out 6-2 after

hallmark of the Nagoa (Verna) village panchayat, which is in a financial mess

MILK VAN DACOITY CASE: Ponda police arrested Danny Rodricks of Santa Cruz in 
connection with the dacoity at Dharbandora on May 13, 2001. A gang of six 
persons on two-wheelers had intercepted the milk van and assaulted the 
salesman, while decamping with Rs.65,000. (H)

NIGHT CAMPS: To help the public to avail of the voter identity cards, the 
Salcete Mamlatdar is holding night camps in different wards of Margao and 
villages in the taluka from 7 pm to 10 pm. (GT)

brand of Castle Lager beer in the State. Goa is predominantly a mild beer

CHANCES OF TOWING AWAY RIVER PRINCESS: The grounded vessel River Princess 
appears destined to remain in the same position for yet another monsoon after

ISIDORE REJECTS BEST CITIZEN OF INDIA AWARD: Ex-Poinguinim MLA, Isidore 
Fernandes, who was recently awarded the Best Citizen of India Award by 
International Publishing House, New Delhi, has rejected the award. Fernandes 
said that he was skeptical about the criteria applied by the awardees and 
proclaimed that the love and adoration of the people was his cherished award.

MAY DAY RALLY IN MAPUSA: The members of the trade unions affiliated to the 
All India Trade Union Congress took out a substantially large rally in Mapusa 
city this morning. The rally culminated into a meeting on the road near the 
Childrens Park and it was addressed by Narayan Palekar, Mathany Saldanha, 
Subhash Naik, Raju Mangueshkar, Christopher Fonseca and others. The 
government at the Centre came under heavy fire for its attempts to curb the 
rights of labour following pressure from the US. The speakers said that 
besides maintaining solidarity at the place of work, members need to be 
politically active to ensure that the government that comes to power will not
