PARRIKAR PROMISES STABLE GOVT: The Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Parrikar
expressed the hope that his government would last its full term as it was
much more stable than his previous government and came out with the
assurance to give top priority to development of the State, especially in
the infrastructure sector. He justified the 13-member cabinet by saying
that in a coalition one had to share power and that since MGP-UGDP, who are
extending support to his party were smaller parties, he had to include all
their members. He said that he could have adhered to the eight-member
cabinet had he received absolute majority. (NT)

SEVEN NEW FACES: Of the 13 Ministers in the Cabinet, two each are from the
regional United Goans Democratic Party (UGDP) and the Maharashtrawadi

support. Seven of the Ministers in the Cabinet are first-timers. Parrikar
said that the Cabinet size is one less than the outgoing one. "Though we
are committed to a small Cabinet it will take two or three more Assemblies
for us to bring down the size to eight,'' he told reporters. Unlike in the
past, Parrikar made it clear that there would be no deputy CM in his
Cabinet. "All Ministers are equal,'' Parrikar said and their names would
appear in alphabetical order, he said. The BJP has decided to retain the
post of Speaker and Dy Speaker with itself. (Raju Nayak in Indian Express)
