BOMB HOAX AT OLD GOA: The bomb disposal team of Goa police had a harrowing
time yesterday afternoon when an unidentified caller claimed to have placed

Immediately the police informed the nearby Fire Brigade in Old Goa, which
swung into action and vacated the Basilica which had a few visitors at the
time of the afternoon. (GT)

"GOA HAS AN INDEPENDENT IDENTITY": I feel that the formation of the joint
civil services cadre between the states of Goa and Maharashtra would
undoubtedly undermine the interests of the former. Like Maharashtra, Goa is

that shows the formation of any such joint cadres between states in our
country. (Krishnakant V Dalvi in NT)

GOAN "PODERS": The five centuries old institution of the "poders" (bakers)
is Goa's simple swadeshi answer to globalization and monopolization of the
consumer tastes. The "poders" know that as long as there are people who
love various type of Goan breadthe pao, undo, poyi, katre, the pokshie and
the unique, crisp "kakon"a patentable product of purely Goa origin--they
would be able to continue with their traditional business. (Nandkumar Kamat
in Glimpses-NT)

SUBSIDY FOR KONKANI FILMS: The fledgling Konkani film industry is likely to
receive a much-needed fillip with four producers being short-listed for a

assessed 18 applications from local producers for the grant, on the
criteria of their past work, experience and investment already sunk in the
project. (GT)

that the port town of Vasco is a disaster-prone area. This was stated by
director of Fire and Emergency Services, Dr PK John. Vasco, in the last
