Hi there, I've just talked to André and Lucas now over IM and we agreed not to tag rc2 as final on Thursday as initially planned and instead work on an rc3.
The main reasons were a few nasty bugs related to Compile not handling well the new range-based dependencies format (which we plan to promote more after 013) and the realization that with sd_mod still as a module the installed system is not bootable on SATA machines by default. :\ Add to that the number of smaller, less-critical fixes to scripts that have surfaced over the week and we concluded we have enough reason for postponing 013 final for another release candidate. With regard to packages: the idea is to make the least possible changes between RC2 and RC3, so we'll try to touch packages as least as possible. We'll look into including Mdadm, as it was requested to improve the CD compatibility and it is a self-contained addition with basically no interaction with other packages. But we will not make any package upgrades in this mean time. (This includes Firefox 2, especially as that one is an important package which is always delicate to get right, and IMHO I'm not sure if adding a major .0 version in the week it was released is a good idea). So, here's the plan: * CVS is now unfrozen for bugfixes only. Let's go ahead and fix whatever's broken (and resist the temptation of adding features. :) ) * On Saturday 28, time up: I'll pack new releases of Scripts and Compile and hand those packages over to André * On Sunday 29, he'll generate a new ISO, tagged as RC3. * If nothing terrible happens, this new ISO will be then tagged as final on November 2. Good luck to us all :) -- Hisham _______________________________________________ gobolinux-devel mailing list [email protected] http://lists.gobolinux.org/mailman/listinfo/gobolinux-devel
