1. I have just installed the latest release of Gobolinux on a Thinkpad R500. I actually have done the installation twice, because the first time, despite being quite sure that I'd specified that the system clock was set to UTC, when I brought the system up, the date command reported the time as the UTC time, but with the correct timezone (EST; I had specified the timezone as America/New_York during the install). I redid the install to be absolutely sure I specified that the clock was set to UTC and also checked the system time in the BIOS. The system clock is indeed set to UTC and I set the localtime vs UTC choice correctly during installation. The system is not making the timezone adjustment. This is because, despite what I said to the installer, the ClockMode variable in /System/Settings/BootOptions is set to LocalTime. Furthermore, I gave the system a name while running the installer. That name did not get recorded in this file. The HostName entry is set to NewMachine, instead of the name I specified.
I corrected both problems in BootOptions, rebooted, fixed the time in the BIOS (which got set 5 hours late after I changed BootOptions) and now both the system name and time are correct. You clearly have issues with the installer. 2. On the page https://github.com/gobolinux/Documentation/wiki/Configuring-GoboLinux, the word 'occasionally' is mis-spelled. 3. This section -- https://github.com/gobolinux/Documentation/wiki/Configuring-the-boot-process#Network_configuration -- talks about a NetworkOptions file. That file is nowhere to be found. The section doesn't say where the file lives, if it existed, but I presume /System/Setinngs. Aside from this mystery file, this section does not document how to set up wpa-protected wifi with static ip addresses, something I need. I have multiple Linux/BSD machines, all with static addresses, so I can record the name/address mapping in /etc/hosts. I think you have a nice idea here, but it appears that there are installer, documentation, and QA problems. I hope you find this feedback constructive. /Don Allen
