Exactly. we don't even need to run it semi auto-magically...just ask the
user if indexes should be cleaned if compile fails and then retry the
compilation.

Its a simple move that could many errors go away for end users and make the
distro appear self healing (tm :D)

asking the user to run a friendly looking Compile is one thing...a find and
pipe is totally out of the park for most.

there is a risk of the system getting borked but if the links are so badly
out of whacked its probably going to go anyways.

I thought about this before, but scanning the whole /System/Index tree
is slow and not something that is usually needed. So it shouldn't be
something that runs every time.

As you said, doing semi automatically could be a good idea, but we
need to think about when to trigger this. Perhaps add a --cleanup flag
and suggest that when Compile fails during the install step?
