It's certainly true that supporting open source attracts developers as
potential employees, and I would guess it also plays a role here.  But
I think they are actually serious about their open source effort and
probably underestimated the technical challenges of safely integrating
outside repositories with their internal version control.  Their
ultimate goal apparently is to make it as easy as possible to ferry
back and forth patches between their open source and internal
repositories.  Once they get a grip on that, I'm pretty sure the
(maybe not so) recent packaging annoyances relating to Jane Street
libraries will go away.

They are surely already quite aware by now that people are not happy
with the current situation, in which their packages are either holding
up other development or causing package incompatibilities.  Not sure
it's going to happen, but they stated it would only take a few weeks
now to make it happen.  I hope they didn't mean "Weeks" as in "Stephen
Weeks" ;-)
