lipiker -- I am having all of them served with expires headers a year in the future as well as GZipped. I think I remember this being a problem with proxies, though I'm not 100% positive. I do know that not all browsers serve GZipped content, so we have to sniff to see if we can serve the browser a GZip. If your proxy did not correctly identify, then that would be the cause of the problem.
Let me get back to you with a confirmation that this is likely the problem, and any more details.
