Just got home from work; and it appears that - in my case - the proxy is what's causing the problems with the "https" script in Firefox.
I know that my employer uses a pretty aggressive proxy which can't keep its hands off secure traffic. I'm guessing that Firefox 4's reaction to this is simply to block scripts from secure locations where the certificates seem "fishy".
