To answer your other question, the TOS provide for a three-year deprecation
period. So you can expect Google to make reasonable effortsmto maintain the
Image Search API until roughly June 1, 2014. However, it would be prudent to
note that Google has given themselves an escape hatch in the event that the
API becomes financially burdensome to maintain, in which case they reserve
the right to shut down the API at any time, even without notice. In short, I
would be looking for a migration path out of the Image Search API rather
than counting on it to function for any real production appkication.

Sadly, you are correct in your assessment of the Y! BOSS API. In the little
bit that I've used it, it is woefully inadequate in comparison to the Google
API. However, if I can't rely on Google's API to work tomorrow, that is
serious incentive to develop a path to either BOSS or the Bing API.

And yes, I'm going to go wash my fingers and eyes in hot, soapy water and
acid for typing that.
