This really has no direct relationship to the Google APIs, but it is an important subject in the development of any web app. That said, there are so many different variables in play when trying to gauge how long it will take for a page to load that it's very difficult to provide a truly concrete answer. Just a few of these include server load, network speed and traffic, client resources, and browser. So really, the best you can do is utilize tools to optimize your site's download and rendering. Tools like YSlow and PageSpeed, which are both plugins for Chrome and Firefox/Firebug, are of immense help in this area. You'll also want to add timers to your server-side scripts and such to identify any bottlenecks in the code which may be eliminated. The other day, I managed to net a 7x performance improvement in a single script by doing this and rethinking a major bottleneck in the script.
