If the API is returning an error, you can check for the error property, per the documentation. If the feed contents are improperly formed (e.g., malformed XML), you will need to get a little more creative. Exactly what you need to do, though, will depend on a wide variety of conditions. For instance, what language are you writing in? How are you processing the feed? And more. It's really not possible to give you more specific advice without seeing what you've got so far. It would be very helpful if you could provide a link to a demo page of what you're trying to do or, if that's not possible and/or the feed is being processed by server-side code, a pastebin with the relevant code.
