Hi - I believe there are packages out there where you can refer to a single 
file like http://URL/jquery-latest-version.js and it will work perpetually. and 
some of them are moderated to make sure the newest incorporated version works, 
I believe jquery tools is one such package. Of course there would be no 
guarantee that you wouldn't have to rewrite something, or cross tool 
compatibility would be maintained, but I assume jquery tools at least tries to 
maintain internal compatibility
