Dear Google, Our company facilitates a devoted internet portal for every city in The Netherlands.
As a service we want to offer users a complete overview of links to news items that are related to a city. We also want to maintain an archive of the links to news articles indefinitely so that in time, people can use it to extract information about the history of their city. To find news articles about a city we make use of a Google API. This delivers outstanding results so far, however, the API we started using moved to a new API and the Terms of Service has changed to exclude API usage for webservice purposes. The restrictions by the Terms of Service allows only a very limited usage of the service. https://developers.google.com/news-search/terms We are capable to develop our own crawler to match to a sertain level the desired quality of links to news articles. However, as Google offers a service in which the links are available and since Google is much better at finding and indexing news articles then we are able to, it would be better for users of the internet when we could make use of the service. We would therefor like to request an exeption to the terms of service of the News Search API so that we are able to offer a high quality service to users that corresponds with the core values of Google: making information of value better accessible on the internet. News items serve public interest and links to news articles from a variety of contexts is in itself information of value. It would make sense when Google would enable webmasters to access and use links to news articles as free as possible. We are willing to pay for the usage of the service. Yours faithfully, J.
