I had the same problem - the application broke even though there had been no changes in a month. Changing the sender to a gmail address without the dot solved it, as advertised. It was not encouraging that there was still no fix by Google, and that the workaround was necessary. As someone else pointed out, having to change the sender means that some users will no longer get the e-mails because of overly-tight spam filters.
