Also, the gettext docs say it should be "localedir/language/ LC_MESSAGES/domain.mo" (ROOT/locale/en_US/LC_MESSAGES/myproject.po - following your terminology and layout), not "localedir/LC_MESSAGES/ language/domain.mo".
