Yeah, I would use GAE for a CRM app... the object model it has is especially helpful. You need to do a bit of work to get around the scalability issues, but other than that its a great option. The limits I'm talking about are the ones like the datastore returning only 1000 items... so you'll have to maintain a counter to keep track of how many contacts you have... you can't just count them if they're over 1000. Things like that can trip you up if you wait too long into development.
