Dear Mark, I think, if you want to get an answer clarifying your problem, you need to formulate your answer in a way that is better understandable.
Instead of impying that your 'cluster around' is needed, perhaps you should ask if it is of any advantage to force Google's datastore to save data 'clustered' around something you call parent.
