In my original posting I forgot to mention the case of the urlfetch remote API that shipped in 1.2.4 without really working[3]. Nick J. provided a patch, it was simple fix, but makes me wonder if anybode ever tested this before shipping. I am not sure whether a bug was ever filed and if this is fixed in 1.2.5 or not.
