Hi I am going to assume your using python.
You should look at elementtree. Its already in the standard python distribution and for many tasks its the simplest to use if it's all your own code. If you using some other tools then they may have dependencies on other specific parsers. If you have a look at googles own gdata library then you will find the atom.core uses elementtree for all of its xml parsing.
