I have another system that polls appengine for updates every 5 mins, and I get an average of one 500 error returned per day. None of these show in the logs.
This hasn't caused enough pain yet to spur me on to diagnose it, and although it doesn't involve spurious characters, perhaps the cause is similar. I'd like to hear if you get any further with this issue. Cheers Greg.
