You can also schedule a cron job if calling a particular URL every n seconds is your only aim. Having said that, tasks run only once. But in cases of failures, they can be run again. Not sure, but is there a way to set a limit on the number of tasks in a queue? If there's an option like that, try setting the size to 1.
