Dear App Engine team,

Do you think it could be feasible to let us switch to the high
replication datastore in existing apps where we can afford wiping the
contents of the old datastore during the switch?

Some existing apps that still use the master-slave datastore don't
depend on the datastore too much. Others can tolerate a brief downtime
while reuploading the datastore contents from a backup after switching
to HR. (Migrating to a new HR-enabled app id still involves some
downtime for your app.)

This can be implemented by deleting the app and immediately creating a
new HR app with the same id, uploaded versions and owner list. It
would be nice to copy all the settings and logs over from the old app
but that is not essential.

Filed a feature request here:
http://code.google.com/p/googleappengine/issues/detail?id=5232

You can respond there if you wish to keep the record for those who
will come by that issue later.

Thanks,
