As far as I know, the sample code should still work with Google SSO.
We deprecate the sample code because there are better open source
alternatives out there:

http://code.google.com/apis/apps/open_source_projects.html#sso

The deprecation of the sample code means we no longer maintain the
code when new features are added to the Google SSO service.  I hope
this addresses your questions.
