I took a look at our API logs. Over the 
weekend<http://www.google.com/appsstatus#rm=1&di=0&ddo=2&hl=en>we had some 
service outages affecting the User Profiles API, and some of the 
500 status messages seem to be related to those outages. Unfortunately, I 
don't have any way to look at logs for older requests. Our engineering team 
has been busy stabalizing the Apps CPanel and Profiles API, so these 
particular issues should clear up today. Please let us know on this thread 
if, after today, you notice a growing amount of 500 errors.

In any case, these errors don't seem specific to a domain or user - In this 
case, I would recommend that your code catch the 500 status response (the 
same way you should for 503 status messages) and retry the API call.
