Hi bitfinfo, Specification of memberType is not supported by the current API, so for now there is no way you can specify memberType for groups not in your google apps account. If you would like that feature to be inserted in the API, you can make a feature request in the apps-api issues site at http://code.google.com/a/google.com/p/apps-api-issues/issues/list.
