Hi Jay, In order to best evaluate the potential of this new API, we really want to understand how and why people are using it. Therefore, as we roll it out, initially we are asking all interested parties to sign up and tell us a little about their use case. We've taken a similar approach with other APIs, such as the new JSON API for Blogger and BigQuery, and are likely to do so in the future, though this is by no means a shift for all Google Apps APIs.
